Dr Brian Junor

We are sad to announce the death of Dr Brian Junor (1946-2019). Brian was a highly respected and much loved consultant nephrologist for over 30 years at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, retiring in 2011. He had a major role in defining specialty training curricula in nephrology serving as secretary of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UMES) Nephrology Section for many years. He recognised the importance of patients’ experience of renal disease long before ‘patient reported outcomes’ became a recognised issue. He initiated the peritoneal dialysis programme in Scotland and described the contribution of chlorhexidine-alcohol as a contributor to sclerosing peritonitis leading to changes in clinical practice. He had an enormous influence on the training of many nephrologists in Scotland and much wider afield. He will be missed. We send sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.
