13th International podocyte meeting
09/06/20 - 13/06/20
The conference is open to participants from all over the world and will be conducted in English.
Pre-meeting focussed on early career researchers: Tuesday 9th June 2020
This 1-day meeting is for early career researchers e.g. students, technical staff, post-doctoral researchers and investigators within first 2-years of independence. It aims to introduce to the complexities and key outstanding questions in glomerular research by stimulating discussion on glomerular biology in development, homeostasis and disease and to give attendees the opportunity to present their research projects to their peers. The content will encompass a number of diverse fields from molecular and cellular biology to animal models, omics technologies and computational biology (see meeting outline). The meeting will provide a unique opportunity for participants to present unpublished data, exchange ideas and network with like-minded colleagues. To this end, the pre-conference symposium will also include an informal meet-the-expert-panel on how to get ahead in science, focusing on career progression, publishing and scientific integrity.
Main meeting: Bridging basic and translational research: Wednesday 10th – Friday 12th June 2020
This 3-day meeting will cover 12 key themes in podocyte and nephrotic syndrome research ranging from podocyte signalling pathways and genetic screening to disease models and drug development. To demonstrate bridging between basic science and translational research, the key research themes will be paired within the same session (see meeting outline). The programme will allow time for discussions and the sessions will also include selected abstracts to showcase early career or emerging researchers in the field. On each day there will be 1 keynote presentation, selected to focus on the challenges we face in the field. There will be 3 moderated poster sessions over a 90-minute lunch break each day and delegates will have chance to engage with the meeting sponsors at these times in addition to the morning and afternoon refreshment breaks.
Patient-focussed meeting: Saturday 13th June 2020
This 1-day meeting will bring together patients, patient organisations and researchers to consider the key research priorities and to focus on communicating research effectively (see meeting outline). It will include patient story-telling and building the wider patient organisation community in addition to discussions focussed on treatment options for nephrotic syndrome.
