Expressions of interest sought for RA council members
Professor Aine Burns, Professor Alan Salama and Dr Tim Bowen are coming to the end of their tenure as Renal Association council members.
We would like to thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment over the years, and wish them well.
Nominations are requested from members of the Association for three new members to serve the RA Council (the Council), one of which will be a renal scientist.
The Council is a wise body of people which is deliberative and focused on service, education and research. It supports, advises and guides the trustee board (the board) in developing policy, strategy and implementation. The Council allows the board to fulfil its legal, ethical, and statutory responsibilities. It is important that the two bodies work closely together to fulfil their responsibilities and there is an intentional overlap of membership to support this.
The board is seeking member nominations and to help maintain a wide geographic reach, it particularly welcomes nominees representing the North West of England, the North East of England, the Southwest of England or the devolved nations.
Nominees with be interested in:
- Representing the membership in identifying strategic issues to be addressed
- Commenting on draft strategy papers and subsequent implementation plans
- Identifying and suggesting issues the membership faces that require addressing
- Advising committee chairs on the appropriateness of work objectives and programmes and providing a voice for the membership and partners.
A willingness to contribute time and energy is essential. The Council meets three times a year and members will also be asked to attend and/or chair sub-committee meetings or task and finish groups.
Deadline for nominations is: Friday 31 July 2020
Electronic voting will be carried out in August, in order for the appointment of the new members to be ratified at the Annual General Meeting on 23 September 2020.
How to Nominate
Nominees must complete the nomination form and also provide:
- 2 page CV
- A short personal statement of intent which will be made available to the electorate (no more than 500 words).
The nomination form, CV and personal statement should be emailed no later than Friday 31 July 2020 to the RA secretariat.

We ensure appointments are made on the recommendation of a transparent, balanced and appropriate panel, are made on the basis of merit, and encourage applications from all suitably qualified and eligible candidates.
Remuneration / Expenses
Please note that the role is un-remunerated. Reasonable expenses are paid in accordance with the RA expense policy (available upon appointment).
