KidsKidneyDiet iphone app

An interactive educational dietary app has been developed for children with kidney disease and their families/carers to help them to learn and engage using technology they love and understand – phones and tablets!
It can be downloaded via this link.

The KidsKidneyDiet app features 4 sections: potassium, phosphate, salt and fluid. Each section will have a game to play and/or text to read. The phosphate and fluid section will also have a video to watch of a child who attends for haemodialysis at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH). The app has been developed to support the individualised advice that children receive from their own paediatric renal dietitian.

The KidneyKidsDiet app has been developed by Shelley Cleghorn, Advanced Practitioner Renal Paediatric Dietitian working at GOSH. It has been reviewed by specialist paediatric dietitians working at GOSH and endorsed by PRiNG (Paediatric Renal Nutrition Group), a subgroup of the BDA Paediatric Group. Kidney Care UK, a kidney patient support charity, has provided the funds necessary to develop this app. It is only currently available on Apple devices and will need Wifi for downloading. There is a link in the app to the Kidney Friendly Cookbook developed by Sarah Trace, Renal Dietitian and her team of dietetic support workers at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
If it takes off producers may apply for funding to develop it for Androids.
