Nominations are invited for President of The Renal Association

Nominations for RA President

The President is elected by ballot of the whole membership of The Renal Association. The appointee will become President-elect at our AGM in Birmingham in June 2011 and will serve as President from 2012 to 2014.

The President of The Renal Association is responsible for the strategic direction and is the external face of the Association, ensuring effective working relations with external bodies whose work is relevant to the interests of The Renal Association. The President, along with the other Trustees, is responsible for the financial probity of the Association. The position of President of The Renal Association is a substantial task in light of the rapidly evolving clinical, training and academic environment. However, in the current challenging NHS environment it remains an important influential and highly rewarding role.

After completion of the two-year term as President, the Past-President holds a number of important posts, including Chair of the Joint Specialty Committee of the Royal College of Physicians of London and The Renal Association, and Chair of both the UK Renal Registry Management Board and the Renal Patient View Management Board, and remains a Trustee of the Association for this time.

Potential candidates are recommended to take a realistic review of their own work programme before being nominated and to seek the support of their colleagues and employing organisation. The President receives no remuneration from The Renal Association; but will be reimbursed for necessary travel expenses. The employing institution of the successful candidate will be reimbursed to cover secretarial support.

Nominations must be supported by two signatures of Renal Association members. The completed form should also be accompanied by a 500 word statement of intent which will be made available to the electorate and a CV.

Closing date for receipt of nominations is 5.30pm, Monday 31st January 2011.

Voting will take place in February 2011 and will be via the internet.

If you do not wish to vote via the internet an alternative postal option is available. Please contact the secretariat by Thursday 3rd February 2011 if you would like to opt out of internet voting and would prefer to be sent information regarding a postal vote.
