Renal Association support for 2021 National Clinical Excellence Award applications

The National CEA process for 2021 is now open and will close at 5pm on Thursday 18 March 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the application process has been simplified and the deadline extended. The Renal Association is only able to support new award applications and submit citations for a limited number of applicants . Guidance on applications is available online.

The deadline for RA support is 28 February 2021

Applying for a Bronze, Silver or Gold award (levels 9 – 11)

The Renal Association can nominate individuals directly to the Advisory Committee for Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) for Bronze, Silver and Gold awards (levels 9 - 11).

To apply for Renal Association support:

  • Download the relevant forms which can be found on the ACCEA website.
  • Complete these and forward to renal@renal.org in an email titled "ACCEA" followed by the level you are applying for and your surname
  • The deadline for RA support is 28 February 2021
  • You will be informed ahead of the ACCEA deadline whether or not the Renal Association has been able to nominate you for support. The Renal Association has a well-defined process for ranking applications for support.  The number of nominations made at each level for new awards is restricted, being governed by the size of our membership. The Renal Association will prioritise those members who make a substantial contribution to our specialty over and above that which would be expected within an individual's usual job plan, whether through delivery of clinical service, education and training, or research (or combinations thereof).
  • The RA submits rankings to the ACCEA website via the online portal.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is submitted to the ACCEA by Thursday 18 March 2021.

Applying for a Platinum award

Nominations for Platinum Awards (level 12) are handled by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). If you are applying for a platinum award then let us know and we will do what we can to provide support.

Paediatrics

The BAPN convenes a panel to rank and write citations, which will feed into the Renal Association panel, on which a senior BAPN exec member also sits.

Timeline

  2. BAPN deadline for citation support 28 February 2021 – applications to BAPN@renal.org in an email titled "ACCEA" followed by the level you are applying for and your surname

  4. ACCEA portal closes Thursday 18 March 2021

Applying from Scotland and Northern Ireland

There are differences in the systems in Scotland and Northern Ireland and I do not have details of these at the present time. We will work flexibly to ensure that, wherever you work in the United Kingdom, you have access to the support of The Renal Association if and when a relevant application process is opened.

Applying for levels 1 - 8

We have no direct input to local Trust decisions regarding levels 1 - 8.

Self-nomination

Self-nomination is also encouraged by ACCEA. You each have the right to nominate yourself directly to ACCEA whether or not you are supported through The Renal Association and Royal College processes.
Guidance and application forms will be published online here.

The Renal Association, the British Association for Paediatric Nephrology and the Royal College of Physicians believe that equality of opportunity is fundamental. Nominations will be made on the basis of excellence, regardless of race, religion, ethnic origin, disability, age, gender and sexual orientation.

Please remember that the Renal Association will not be submitting your application to the ACCEA and that the copies received will be only be used within the Renal Association for the nomination selection process.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us via email.
