SAS doctors development guide

BMA, HEE, AoMRC and NHSE joint publication 2017

SAS doctors in Nephrology are a diverse group with a wide range of skills and experience. There is currently no specific forum for nephrology education and training for this group of doctors. Yet previous RA surveys have highlighted the main concerns of renal SAS doctors as the lack of education and training, personal development and career progression opportunities. SAS doctors in nephrology require assistance to remain fit to practice and develop in their careers.

The guide from the link below describes actions that can be taken by stakeholder groups (SAS doctors, NHS boards, Medical Directors, HR) to ensure that by working together, best practice is consistently applied to improve opportunities for effective development of SAS doctors. This document has been endorsed by The Renal Association and other specialty specific organisations (eg Royal College of Anaesthetists).
